Magenza

Magenza was the medieval Jewish name for Mainz.
Between the 10th and 13th centuries, the city became one of the most important spiritual and cultural centers of Ashkenazi Judaism north of the Alps.
This rich heritage was recognized by UNESCO in 2021 as part of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity and remains a cornerstone of Ashkenazi culture.
During this tour, we discover where Mainz’s Jewish community once lived and explore the significance of the ShUM cities..
